ABOUT ME

Julija Jankavs is a contemporary visual artist born in Rivne, Ukraine, who lives and works in Riga, Latvia. While she explores various media, painting remains at the heart of her artistic practice. Her works are held in private collections across Ukraine, Latvia, the United States, and Switzerland.

Julija explores the relationship between the human body and inner psychological states. Through the deformation and plasticity of the human figure, she investigates how emotional tension and psychological pressure materialize in physical form.

“For me, the body is a plastic map of our psyche, recording every conscious or subconscious pressure.”

A defining element of her work is deep, saturated ultramarine. The color creates a psychological space in which the human figure is immersed, becoming a metaphor for vulnerability and giving physical presence to invisible emotional experiences.
